African Blackwood is one of the woods we use extensively in our titanium rings. Blackwood comes from the African subcontinent and flourishes in the the areas in southern Africa that are seasonally dry. It’s appearance is more like a bush than a large tree.

Blackwood makes an excellent inlay material for titanium rings due to its density and color. Blackwood is so dense, in fact, it will not float. The pure black colors and density make it an extremely durable wood and when set into a titanium ring band, the Blackwood and the natural luster of titanium make for an stunning combination.

African Blackwood has had several uses throughout the ages. It has beautiful tonal qualities, which makes it a common wood used in woodwindwind instruments. It has been used in pipe instruments, clarinets and oboes. Many tribal communities in African has utilized Blackwood for carving. Blackwood has also been used for furniture, though it’s relatively narrow widths limit its use.

The Titanium Ring Shop uses Blackwood in several of its rings. From our a simple titanium band with a Blackwood inlay to a ring with Blackwood and Rose Gold inlays and one with Blackwood, Rose Gold and Koa Wood.
